My Front Yard

I am sure you can all relate: the sun is starting to come out and every time you walk out your front door you dread to look at it, but there it is: “the front yard!” I don’t know about the size of your front yard but mine is pretty big, and it is a lot of work. I used to have two large piles of dirt, one on the side of the driveway and one right in front of the house. It took my mom coming over and offering to help me with it to finally start the battle!

Last year we finally took action. We planted 6 different types of flowers on the side area but before we added the flowers we used a black liner to prevent weeds from growing around the flowers. Which I will say, by the looks of my yard this year, it did not serve its purpose! We put a small table in between the flowers and put an old watering can on top of the table for decoration. The final touch on the side lot of the yard was the “My Garden” sign that no front yard should live without.

Now the front part of the yard was a lot more work. My mom and I decided that we would again plant 6 different types of flowers, but then we would also add bark dust, and finish it off with little rocks for a decorative touch, like a Japanese Garden. Now this may sound easy but let me tell you it is a lot of work! Planting the flowers was the easiest part of the whole project. But before we planted the flowers again, we added the black liner to prevent weeds from growing. After we had laid our foundation it was bark dust time. Just make sure when you are laying bark dust that you have good gloves that will protect your hands from splinters; I had to learn that the hard way! The most challenging part was the decorative rock we added at the end. We had to go to a gravel yard and load the rock in the back of my boyfriend’s truck. After that we had to take it home and shovel all of the rock onto the parts of the yard where we wanted it. But there is a lot of rock and a lot of shoveling! This project took us a couple days, but by the end we were really pleased!

Now it is the following year and I have not kept up with my maintenance! There are weeds growing between all of my flowers, the bark dust is thinning, and the decorative rock is anywhere but the right place! So the battle begins again!
